Isochronic Tones for Traders to Improve Trading Performance

Isochronic tones are newer in regards to popularity compared to binaural beats. But I have found them to be very helpful in my meditation to improve my trading performance. Isochronic tones are a method of brainwave entrainment. What brainwave entrainment is if you are not familiar with the term is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The only type I have used is sound. I have never used light or an electromagnetic field. the pulses encourage the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

I am a big believer in meditation to improve your performance in any and every area of your life. Even if your life is perfect and nothing needs to be improved then meditation can still benefit you by getting you to a relaxed state much sooner than normal.

This post will be focused on how isochronic tones can improve your meditation for trading performance. Meditation by itself is awesome but there are a couple of tools you can use to get out more of each session. My goal is to maximize each and every meditation session I have. Sometimes it may feel like a session wasn’t beneficial but that is not true. Anytime you take time to relax and focus on your thoughts or emotions then you have improved your life. So even though some sessions I feel like my thoughts were all over the place I have to remind myself that just taking the time to search those thoughts helped me out.

With isochronic tones, they are a tool I use to get into a deeper meditation state. I’ll go over a little background of what they are, how they can help improve your trading. Finally, I will provide YouTube videos of isochronic tones that I listen to. The ones I provide are all free at the time of this writing.

What Are Isochronic Tones?

Wikipedia defines them as:

Isochronic tones are regular beats of a single tone that are used alongside monaural beats and binaural beats in the process called brainwave entrainment. At its simplest level, an isochronic tone is a tone that is being turned on and off rapidly. They create sharp, distinctive pulses of sound.

They are used to stimulate and influence your brain’s electrical activity and guide you to specific and more desired mental states. I am always on the lookout for tools to improve my meditation and isochronic tones are one of the tools I use.

I want to share with you some of the videos I personally use. Some videos are for meditating while others are to have on while doing other tasks. Lower in this post I’ll have them listed. To me, pure isochronic tones are really annoying. Fortunately, the videos I provide below use them with electronic music and/or ambient/chill music. I couldn’t listen to a pulsating beat as the only source of sound.

In the section above I mentioned a little about isochronic tones and that they encourage the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

They are a consistent regular beat of a single tone. They assist in creating a distinct beat which results in a stronger response in your brain. The theory is that this makes the stimulation more effective. Some people say you don’t need headphones to utilize them but I always use headphones when listening to isochronic beats.

With the tones, you have different frequencies. The frequencies are the different states they help your mind to get into.

Brainwave speed is measured in Hertz (cycles per second) and is categorized into bands delineating slow, moderate, and fast waves, ranging from the most activity to the least activity. (https://www.thomashallhypnosis.com/blog/2019/1/27/make-the-most-of-your-brainwaves)

  • Gamma: High frequency (30 to 80 Hz) Gamma waves are the fastest of the brainwaves, and are associated with intense concentration and the learning and storing of new information.

  • Beta: The brain generates Beta waves (14 to 30Hz) when it’s engaged in demanding mental activities such as problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Alpha: Dominant during quiet times such as when reading a book, Alpha waves (9 to 14Hz) can be detected when the brain is relaxed.

  • Theta: That twilight state that we experience as we drift off to sleep, or when driving on the freeway and discovering that we can’t recall the last five miles, is when we’re likely to be generating Theta waves (4 to 9Hz).

  • Delta: The final brainwave state is Delta, which has the slowest frequency (1.5 to 4Hz) and is associated with deep, dreamless sleep.

You can use the state of mind you are looking to promote by listening to the soundtracks that have one of the above specific hertz ranges.

The two states from my research and what I am focusing on getting into are the alpha and theta states. They are the gateways to your subconscious mind.

Getting into the subconscious mind is easier in the alpha state because by then you have quieted your thoughts and are “in the gap.” With Theta waves and in a Theta state you have activated your creative resources and increased your imagination.

Here are two posts that go into very good detail about how isochronic tones work:

How Can They Help You Improve Your Trading?

Isochronic tones can assist you in getting into the state you feel will benefit your meditation sessions to improve your trading. The tones are not required for meditating. Just use them as a tool.

As mentioned in the previous section the two states to focus on if you want to get into your subconscious are the alpha and theta states. You will also want to use Beta from time to time but I mainly use Beta when I am performing work and need extra concentration (writing this post).

With alpha and theta states it is best if you keep your eyes closed. With beta, you can do either.

The goal of my meditation sessions follows a pattern. I don’t always get all the way through but here is the overall pattern:

  1. Observe my thoughts or observe my emotions (one of them will be stronger than the other so I observe whichever it is)
  2. Eventually, my thoughts or emotions start to quiet down
  3. Observe the gaps between thoughts (this is when you are getting into the alpha and eventually theta states)
  4. If I lose the gap and thoughts or emotions come back then simply observe them until I get back into the gap
  5. Once the gaps start lasting longer and longer then I visualize my setups while in the gaps
  6. If I make it through my setups then I start visualizing other areas in my life I am looking to improve

Each meditation session doesn’t go exactly like this but this is the overall goal. Each session is somewhat different. Sometimes I just simply relax and observe the gaps. How I get there and my process can be found here: https://evancarthey.com/how-to-become-a-profitable-trader-using-meditation/.

But whatever happens you never try and force the issue, you simply observe. Some sessions you can go deeper and longer than others.

So the goal with isochronic tones is to get you into the state of mind you are looking to get into with your meditation session faster and keep you there longer. As mentioned above I try to focus on the alpha and theta states when I am looking to tap into my subconscious during a meditation session. You are looking to create your own trading system and setups by discovering them through your meditation sessions. The quicker you can get into the alpha or theta state then the faster you will make discoveries.

YouTube Videos for Different States of Consciousness

Here is my collection of YouTube videos that focus on isochronic tones. I use them for different purposes. Some I use for meditation sessions while others I use to have on in the background when I am performing another task.

The isochronic tones with the electronic influence make this one of my favorite tracks to listen to. I enjoy electronic music so this fits in very well with my tastes. The beats fluctuate between the alpha and beta states. If you are looking to really tap into your subconscious for a deep meditation session then you will probably want to focus on one that has only alpha and theta.

This video is just like listening to a Chill or Ambience station. You can hardly tell the focus of it is isochronic tones. This is another very well done track. I wouldn’t use it if I was looking for a deep meditation session though. It is mainly used for when I am doing another task and need some extra focus. The frequencies fluctuate between alpha and beta.

The video here is extremely relaxing. This is one where you definitely can use it for a deep meditation session. It focuses on Delta range so if you are looking to help promote a very deep meditation session then listen to this track.

This video is great for meditating. It is very relaxing and the isochronic tones are not too strong. In some videos, they can be to pulse-pounding with the isochronic tones and can cause headaches for me if I listen to them for too long. But not this one. The Beta range is the one this video focuses on. So although it may not be the best to really get into your subconscious it can be very beneficial to assist in your logic and critical reasoning.

While I was writing the majority of this post, this is the track I listened to. It focuses on the Beta range at 18Hz which is to promote alertness, logic, and critical reasoning. This is the state the majority of the state we function in with everyday life.

Conclusion

I hope you can see how the use of isochronic tones can assist in your meditation sessions. They are not required for meditating but I do believe they can assist in getting you into a deeper state of consciousness you would like to reach.

I recommend using headphones with them and closing your eyes when you are looking at getting into an alpha or theta state. With a beta state, you can close your eyes or keep them open and you can perform tasks or activities while listening to beta in order to promote focus.

There are other states available but these are the states I am focused on now. I’ll write a post in the future about binaural beats because I also use them in my meditation sessions.
